IARC Opposes HR166 and Urges Republican Lawmakers to Engage with Legitimate Iranian Voices

Bijan Mazarji

The Iranian American Republican Council (IARC) wishes to express its concerns regarding House Resolution 166 (HR166), introduced on February 26, 2025, which supports the Iranian people's aspirations for a democratic, secular, and nonnuclear Republic of Iran.

While we wholeheartedly endorse the pursuit of democracy and freedom for the Iranian people, we are troubled by the resolution's implicit association with the People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI), also known as the Mujahedin-e Khalq (MEK) or the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI). The IARC does not support the MEK/NCRI/PMOI due to their controversial history and lack of legitimate representation among Iranians both within Iran and in the diaspora.

We urge our Republican congressmen and senators to engage with a broader spectrum of Iranian opposition groups and community leaders who genuinely reflect the diverse aspirations of the Iranian populace. By doing so, the United States can more effectively support the Iranian people's quest for a free and democratic nation, ensuring that our foreign policy aligns with the authentic voices of those we aim to support.

The IARC remains committed to promoting conservative values and empowering Iranian Americans to actively participate in the democratic process at all levels. We believe that a nuanced and informed approach to foreign policy concerning Iran will better serve both American interests and the legitimate aspirations of the Iranian people.
